How does laser hair removal/IPL work?
The laser/IPL targets the darkness of the melanin pigment in the hair follicle. Since the melanin is only produced in the growth phase of the hair, the laser must target the hair follicle during this cycle. At any given time, 10-20% of the hair in a particular area may be in a growth phase. Therefore, more than one treatment needs to be scheduled, preferably at 4-6 week intervals. With multiple treatments all potential hair follicles can be disabled.
How many treatments will be needed?
Laser/IPL treatment impairs the growth of the hair follicles when they are in the growth ( anagen ) cycle at the time of treatment. Unfortunately not all hair follicles are at this stage at the same time. Therefore, for effective permanent hair removal, most people require approximately 4-8 treatments to achieve the desired results. The number of sessions also depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin.
Are there side effects?
Risks are minimal. There is no recovery or down time. Clients can return to their normal activities immediately. After the treatment you may experience a slight reddening of the skin similar to a sunburn (this is a desired effect) that will resolve within a few hours or days.
Is the treatment painful?
This is a common natural concern for many of our clients. Our lasers use a special cooling system that lowers the temperature of the skin at the treatment site before, during, and after laser exposure. Therefore, the treatment is generally not painful and is well tolerated. Some clients describe the treatment as a sensation like the snap of a rubber band and “much less painful than waxing I used to subject myself to.” Topical anesthetic cream is an option for more sensitive areas.
Are the results permanent?
Results vary depending on the skin and hair type. Studies have shown that most clients can achieve permanent hair reduction of up to 85-90% and any remaining hairs return much lighter and softer.
How long will the procedure take?
Treatment times vary depending on the size of the area being treated. Small areas such as lip or chin can be treated in as little as 15 minutes. Where as full backs or full legs could be a 45 minute procedure.
Is it safe?
Laser/IPL treatments are very safe. Our Laser/IPL’s are FDA approved and use the best technology for delivering the safest treatment. All of our technicians are board certified and experienced with providing treatments to fit your needs.
How much does it cost?
Although our prices are measured per area, it is best for us to evaluate the area in person. We always offer free consultations, and cost will vary according to the treatment plan, areas to be treated, and the amount of hair. Clients may pay per treatment, but we also offer package discounts and multiple area discounts. We often run specials on the website and offer an ” Easy Payment Plan.”
Can any area be treated?
Most areas can be treated. The laser is most effective on dark, course hair, as well as it’s an excellent treatment for ingrown hairs. Our technicians will asses your area of concern and help you get the best results.
What hair growth should I expect after a treatment?
Initially after each treatment the hair treated in the anagen or mature growth cycle will be disabled and fall out over the next 2-3 weeks. With each treatment you should be experiencing an overall reduction of hair production.
